Felicia D. Henderson Signs With Independent Artist Group (EXCLUSIVE)

Writer, showrunner and director Felicia D. Henderson has signed with Independent Artist Group (IAG), Variety learned exclusively. She continues to be replaced by Yorn Levine Barnes.

Henderson was most recently showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix series “First Kill,” which followed the budding romantic relationship between two teenage girls – one a vampire and the other a vampire hunter.

Henderson began his career in entertainment through NBC’s management training program. Her desire to be part of the creative side of the industry led her to apply and be accepted at Warner Bros. Writers’ Workshop. From there, she landed jobs on shows like “Family Matters,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Sister Sister,” and “Moesha.”

Henderson then developed the Showtime series “Soul Food,” based on the George Tillman Jr. film of the same name. The show ran for four seasons and won several NAACP Image Awards. She is also co-creator of the BET series “The Quad,” which aired for two seasons.

Henderson’s other credits include “The Punisher,” “Gossip Girl,” “Fringe” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” She has also written feature films for Paramount and Lionsgate and is currently writing “Grow Up!” » for Midwood Media by Michael Kendall. This film is described as a coming-of-age comedy set in the world of hip hop.

She also wrote, produced and directed the short film “The Rebel Girls,” based on the true story of a group of girls arrested for trying to enter a movie theater in 1963 in southern Georgia. The film was nominated for a Humanitas Award and won several awards at several film festivals. It is now officially under consideration for the Academy Awards in the live-action short film category.

Outside of screenwriting, Henderson has also written several comic books for DC, including “Teen Titans,” “Justice Society of America” ​​and “Static Shock.” Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radio, Television and Film at Northwestern University, where she is committed to race, thought and gender equality.
