A drug dealer whose illegal activities came to light after he was arrested for assault has been jailed. Patrick Foley, 50, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday (October 21) where he was jailed for four years and six months.

Foley, of Hallwood Walk, Ellesmere Harborhad pleaded guilty to common assault and possession with intent to supply a class A drug (cocaine). He also admitted possessing a prescription drug (tadalafil) with intent to supply.

On Wednesday, August 28, the victim in this case attended Ellesmere Port police station to report that she had been assaulted and threatened by Foley. He said he parked in Hallwood Walk and as he got out of his vehicle, Foley, who was known to the victim, approached him and assaulted him during a unprovoked attack. He also made threats against the victim, making her afraid to return home.

Officers went to Foley’s address and arrested him. They also carried out a search of the address and seized a large bag of white powder, as well as a number of telephones, a scale and a quantity of cash. A drugs expert confirmed it was cocaine with a potential value of between £1,050 and £3,500.

In an interview, Foley denied the allegations against him and said the drugs seized were for personal use only. Despite his denials, Foley was later charged with several offenses.

Detective Constable Stuart Wood said: “Although Foley is currently serving a considerable sentence, our fight against illegal drugs is never over and we are committed to doing all we can to hold people accountable.

“But we must stress that this is not a problem we can solve alone. Informing communities about drug-related behavior is vital and I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.”
