Boil water order issued for Lakeside Village

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water order for the Lakeside Village Improvement District.

The order was issued due to a water main break and loss of pressure in the system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure can result in loss of chlorine residue and bacterial contamination.

KDHE states that the order takes effect October 30, 2024, and will be in effect until samples of the distribution system indicate that the system poses no risk of bacterial contamination. KDHE says bottled water is available at the office.

Residents should observe the following precautions until further notice:

  • If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it runs clear.
  • Boil water for one minute before drinking or preparing food, or use bottled water.
  • Discard the ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker.
  • Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersing them for at least one minute in clean tap water containing one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
  • Water used for bathing generally does not need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary during bathing so that water is not ingested. People with severe cuts or rashes may want to see their doctor.

Only the KDHE can issue a cancellation order after testing at a certified laboratory.
