Google CEO reveals more than 25% of new Google code is generated by AI

Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that more than a quarter of new code for Google products is now generated by AI systems, with human programmers only reviewing and accepting computer-generated contributions.

“We also use AI internally to improve our coding processes, which increases productivity and efficiency,” Pichai said Tuesday during Google’s third-quarter 2024 earnings conference call.

Google also uses AI to make money. Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., has shared impressive financial results, thanks to the use of AI.

It reported a whopping $88.3 billion in revenue for the quarter, with Google services revenue (which includes search) coming in at $76.5 billion, up 13% YoY. year.

Google Cloud, which includes its AI infrastructure products for other companies, generated revenue of $11.4 billion, up 35% year over year.

“In Search, our new AI features expand what people can search for and how they do it,” CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement.

He added: “In the Cloud, our AI solutions help drive greater product adoption with existing customers, attract new customers and win larger contracts. And YouTube’s total ad and subscription revenue surpassed $50 billion for the first time over the past four quarters.

Despite good revenues, Google is facing tough times as a US court has ruled that Google has a monopoly in the search and advertising markets, potentially paving the way for significant regulatory action.
