We’re officially past this year’s Call of Duty game launch weekend, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This is usually when players start sorting out all the things they don’t really like, as the honeymoon phase begins to fade.

This is also about the time we expect Activision to release its almost annual “this Call of Duty is a success” statement, and the publisher hasn’t disappointed this year.

Activision announced Thursday that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 achieved the series’ “biggest three-day opening weekend.” During this period, the game had the highest number of players, most hours of play, and most multiplayer matches. Unfortunately, none of these statements come with actual numbers.

The numbers of course have much less weight this year since Black Ops 6 is also the first Call of Duty to launch on day one on Game Pass on PC and Xbox consoles, making the game more accessible to players than ever.

These game launch statements are usually pretty qualified to present the game in the best possible light, but Microsoft – now owner of Activision – shed a little more light on the game’s sales performance at full price in a press release.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that Black Ops 6 saw 60% growth in unit sales on Steam and PlayStation – two platforms where Game Pass is not available, although PC players obviously have still access to the Game Pass version on the Microsoft Store, just not on Steam. Nadella also said that the game set a new record for “Game Pass subscriber additions” on its launch day.

Black Ops 6 will also likely top the Circana (formerly NPD) October sales chart. Given how barren this year has been for the type of blockbuster game that could challenge it, it will likely also be the best-selling game of 2024.
