Things could, and indeed do, get worse for America after January 6th. I served in the Trump administration, but withdrew my support for the president after that dark day. Four years later, I’m back. And here’s why. The Biden-Harris administration has weakened our power, our wallets and our values. After living in this reality for almost four years, we have no choice: we need elders President Donald J. Trump back at the White House.

I explained my change of heart in national media, from MSNBC to CNN to NPR. Yet instead of considering the content of my argument, most journalists became dismayed by my decision that it is more important to support Republican policies than to punish a former president they hate. If Vice President Kamala Harris can “change his mind” about easing border control, why can’t someone on the other side of the aisle change his mind?

I cannot excuse January 6 or the former president’s lackluster response to that dark day. But our system held firm, the riots were suppressed and the transfer of power was completed.

Skeptics wonder if there isn’t some sort of insidious reason behind my position today.

They ask: did he offer me a job? No. Did he blackmail me? No. Do you think he won the 2020 election? No (unfortunately). Have you lost your moral compass? No. In fact, my moral compass points due north toward what is best for our country.

As the twentieth United States Ambassador to the European Union, I know Trump and have worked closely with him. He is a showman who loves to shock. It’s obvious. What is perhaps less obvious is that he is also a quick and thoughtful decision-maker. He doesn’t need to do any hemming and hawing or, like his opponent, need a script to stay on message. And unlike the other camp, Trump cares about fostering our country’s meritocracy, not mediocrity. He believes that competition, not socialism, is the best solution for our society.

Harris represents a party at odds with this perspective. Indeed, Democrats are leading a strategic attack on our two-party democratic system and advocating policies that will further erode America’s prestige, pocketbooks, and families. Harris is committed to packing the Supreme Courteliminate the filibuster, significantly relax election rules, and give unelected government employees the power to decide which cars we drive and which stoves we cook on. She wants to control what our children study and how we speak. She says she wouldn’t do anything different than President Joe Biden. It’s disturbing to say the least.

This means that Harris recognizes that it was wise to withdraw US military forces before civilians of Afghanistan. I guess she’s too young to remember Saigon or wasn’t moved when desperate innocents died on an American plane fleeing Kabul. That means she thinks Biden was right that Washington would not respond if Moscow made only a “minor incursion” into Ukraine. Talk about giving the green light to dictators.

While Trump panders to bad guys in public as a counterintuitive and strategic tactic, no world leader doubts his resolve toward America. We need this type of leadership on the international scene because, thanks to Disastrous Biden-Harris Foreign Policyallies and adversaries doubt American beliefs and are confused about our positions. This would be problematic in any era, but particularly worrying in the context of a rising China and an expansionist Russia.

At home, Harris turns a blind eye to the foreign influence that radicalizes our students and makes them hate America. She never discusses the similarities with the radicalized Iranian students who set up a fundamentalist government in Tehran which chants “Death to America” and sponsors 13 terrorist groups, including Hamas.

Harris says she “understands the emotions” that drive students who wear keffiyehs and call for the destruction of Jews. Would Harris be as optimistic if black people were targeted in the same way as Jews? Although I doubt Harris is truly anti-Semitic or wants to see the destruction of State of Israelhis actions are not commensurate with those of a staunch supporter of Israel or an ally. Her voting ambition (particularly among Arab Americans in Michigan) brought her dangerously close to the Hamas agenda.

Harris’ economic situation is equally appalling. She cares more about handing out gifts to illegal immigrants than supporting people like my parents, Holocaust survivors who immigrated legally to the United States and opened a dry cleaners where they worked for decades.

She believes race should be a qualification for jobs and benefits. Additionally, Harris is part of the administration that used COVID-19 as an excuse injecting an additional $2 trillion unnecessarily into the economy, thereby guaranteeing inflation and, essentially, buying votes.

Despite denials from the White House, anyone who shops knows that the cost of living has skyrocketed. Not only among the poor, but among everyone. A friend, a college-educated divorced mother with an enviable white-collar job, forgoes meat herself to buy a protein-rich steak for her teenage son. This is not the America our families need or want.

Of course, the Democratic Party denounces the importance of family. Harris reflects this disappearance. She supports welfare programs and old-fashioned tax codes that encourage men to abandon their families. She opposes religious groups who wish to align their business practices with their morals. She encourages immature youth to explore gender-affirming treatments that are irreversible as adults.

She regularly supports teachers unions that pursue anti-student, pro-employee political agendas. In a Harris world, teachers who can’t hand out aspirin without parental consent are punished for telling parents their child is changing gender.

Taken collectively, Harris’s agenda and her alignment with the Democratic base are far more frightening than Donald Trump’s agenda or behavior. This is not a conspiracy theory or scare campaign.

This is why, despite all of Trump’s idiosyncrasies and incendiary style, he remains the best option for America. His policy is fair. The team will be great. And if we have a choice, there is no other choice.
