Scottish Premiership footballer caught driving while banned and without insurance

A Scottish Premiership footballer was caught driving while disqualified and without insurance, after being banned by a court.

Jaden Brown admitted three Highway Traffic Act charges when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The St Mirren player faced seven charges, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, but his not guilty plea to four charges was accepted by the Crown.

The sheriff ordered reports to be produced and adjourned the case.

The 25-year-old is due back in court for sentencing on November 29.

Brown joined St Mirren on loan in January and made the move permanent this summer.

He previously signed for Tottenham, Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln City.

Brown is the third St Mirren player to face criminal charges in the past four weeks.

Defender Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent after being accused of assaulting a teenager in a Glasgow restaurant.

Rooney was suspended last month after police confirmed he had been arrested and charged with assaulting an 18-year-old woman.

He has not yet appeared in court.

On Thursday, striker Kevin van Veen appeared in court charged with a campaign of abuse against his ex-girlfriend.

Van Veen is accused of pushing her off the bed while she was pregnant, causing her to fall to the floor, forcing her to strip and stand naked during arguments, and repeatedly locking her in his home.

The St Mirren striker was arrested at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday August 6. He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 31.
