The Andersons, Inc. Signs Long-Term Lease at Port Houston

The Andersons announced the expansion of their Port Houston operations to increase soybean meal exports for farmers.

Matt Dvorak says that as domestic demand for soybean crushing increases to meet renewable fuel standards, export opportunities increase.

“We will be adding 22,000 tonnes of storage capacity to the facility, which opens up the opportunity for these crushing plants to better plan their logistics, meaning they can keep their doors open longer and continue to crush more a long time,” he said. . “This gives farmers a place to transport their grain, especially during harvest times.”

He tells Brownfield the partnership builds a stronger relationship with farmers.

“What we can do is give people who are building new crushing capacity and who already have crushing capacity a new outlet to get their soybean meal to market,” he says. “Ultimately, it comes down to going upstream in the form of a better supply of soybeans all the way to the farm. »

With a storage capacity of 6.3 million bushels, the Houston facility currently supports the export of more than two million tons of grain annually. The expansion will include up to 22,000 metric tons for storage of soybean meal for export.

Dvorak says construction at Port Houston is expected to begin in 2025.
