Tioga County Issues Burn Ban

OWEGO (WBNG) – Tioga County issued a state of emergency burning ban on October 31.

County officials said the burning ban was issued due to a lack of precipitation, causing extremely dry conditions in the area.

Authorities have warned that these conditions could lead to uncontrollable fires.

As a result, the county has prohibited the following:

  • Any outdoor activity that would allow flames or sparks to cause a fire
  • Burn garbage, trash and other solid waste
  • Burning loose leaves and piles of leaves
  • Burn fallen limbs and branches
  • Burning grass, brush or forested land

The ban will last 30 days unless overturned by a subsequent order.

Tioga County departments and agencies have been ordered to take necessary actions to protect life and property.
