WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)— UPDATE: The Walton County Sheriff’s Office dive team, with assistance from Florida Fish and Wildlife, recovered the body of the missing boater. The family has been notified.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the South Walton Fire District are searching for a man who allegedly jumped from a boat Thursday and did not resurface.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said it received a phone call around 4:30 p.m. that witnesses saw a man jump from a boat near the S. 331 Bridge in Freeport.

According to WCSO, “the boater made several passes under the bridge at high speed before jumping into the water, leaving the boat adrift.”

WCSO says the boat is secure.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and South Walton Fire District are on scene.

WCSO used a boat and jet ski to locate the man, while SWFD deployed personnel, a jet ski and a drone.

Authorities say the Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife have been notified of the incident.
