Nissan has produced more than 1.5 million e-Power vehicles since the hybrid system was first launched in 2016.

Nissan announced that global production of its e-Power vehicles exceeded 1.5 million units by the end of October this year. As stated in an official statement, Japan recorded the highest production figure with 1.17 million units, while Europe recorded 140,000 units, China with 60,000 units and other markets with 150 000 units.

The Japanese automaker’s unique hybrid system uses a small-displacement gasoline engine to produce electricity that powers a lithium-ion battery. Unlike other hybrids, there is no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, the drive being provided exclusively by an electric motor, itself powered by this electric motor.

The e-Power system was first launched in Japan in 2016 with the Note before being extended to the Kicks, X-Trail as well as the Serena. The adoption rate has increased significantly since then, as 42.6% of Nissan vehicles sold in Japan were equipped with the e-Power system in fiscal 2023.

Outside of Japan, e-Power became available in China in 2021 with the Sylphy and is now also available on the X-Trail. As for Europe, e-Power equipped versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai were introduced in 2022, with a total of more than 100,000 units sold as of January.

Currently, e-Power vehicles are sold in 68 markets around the world and the automaker plans to launch the technology in the United States and Canada by the end of fiscal 2026. Malaysia will get soon the Launch of e-Power in Decemberjoining neighboring markets like Thailand and Singapore which have already obtained e-Power vehicles.
