Friday Newspapers: Real estate revival, high NATO support and snowy weekend | Yle News

The fall in Euribor will continue to bring relief to mortgage borrowers, Kauppalehti reported on Friday.

Several signs point to a recovery in the real estate market, according to Kauppalehtiwhich examines recent trends in Euribor rates.

Euribor is short for Euro Interbank Offered Rate and is based on the average interest rate at which European banks borrow from each other.

The most common benchmark rate for Finnish housing loans, the 12-month Euribor, fell to 2.548 percent last week. Market forecasts predict it will fall to around 2% by next spring – a trend that should boost the real estate market, which is already seeing signs of recovery. Prices of old houses outside urban centers are higher than they were a year ago – a situation not seen for more than two years, according to the economic daily.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has lowered its key rates three times this year: in June, September and October. The chief analyst of Danske Bank, Minna Kuusistosuggests there will be another cut in December, with rate cuts continuing quarterly into next year.

NATO nation

The Finns largely support the stationing of NATO troops in the country. An investigation by the agricultural newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus notes that only ten percent of those questioned oppose the deployment of these forces on Finnish soil.

“Support for NATO in Finland reversed very quickly when Russia invaded Ukraine. Since then, support has remained at the ‘North Korean’ level in a positive sense,” the former commander said of the Finnish Defense Forces and current MP. Jarmo Lindberg (PCN).

Overall, attitudes toward international defense cooperation in Finland have changed rapidly and permanently, likely due to Russia’s brutal acts of aggression, MT reports.

Snow season

Winter is on its way, they say Iltalehtisaying an area stretching from Lahti to Lappeenranta will receive up to 15 centimeters of snow on Friday.

The Foreca weather service forecasts snow showers and strong gusts of wind for the weekend.

According to Illinois, the Capital Region will see its first snowflakes Friday, but the white stuff won’t cover the ground for long, unlike Kainuu in the east, where road conditions will become wintry Saturday. More snow is expected in northern Finland on Sunday.

Rabbit Kansa Meanwhile, Thursday night was the coldest of the season so far, with the temperature dropping to -16.7 degrees Celsius in Savukoski, Lapland, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
