Toddler’s Reaction to Photos of Mom and Dad Proves One Is ‘The Favorite’

A MUM looking at photos of her and her husband with their one-year-old child was left in no doubt as to who her favorite is.

It is not uncommon for children to have a favorite relative. In 2019, a survey of 2,000 adults commissioned by ChannelMum.com found that 40% of respondents considered their mother their favorite parent, while around one in seven preferred their father.

Such allegiances can break and change, however. The same study found that although many were initially closer to their mothers, up to 35% of those surveyed considered their father their favorite by the age of 13. Things changed again for many once they reached the age of 20, along with 35. percent admitting that they have returned to preferring their mother’s company at this stage of their lives.

These discoveries should comfort Nathalie Blue, a Canadian mother of two young boys who recently shared a video with her. TikTok@_nathb, in which his eldest son, aged 18 months, clearly expresses his preference.

It all started when her son started rummaging through a bookshelf in the living room and came across a surprise.

“My son took the books off our shelf and started looking through them,” Blue said. News week. “He loves reading books, but I don’t think he expected a book full of pictures of his mom and dad.”

As he flipped through the photo album, Blue I noticed his son pointing out to me his “daddy” over and over again. Although she went to great lengths to try to get him to say “mommy” while showing him the photos of her, he only had eyes for “daddy” time and time again.

Blue ended up filming the interaction and posting it to her TikTok. Although she feigns irritation, Blue said she finds the interaction more amusing than anything else and definitely doesn’t take it personally.

“He loves his father,” she said. “I think anyone with a toddler knows that the favorite can change at the drop of a hat. Some days Dad is the favorite and sometimes it’s me…usually he wants the one who isn’t easily available for him.”

Blue also thinks her son may have deliberately avoided saying “mommy” to try to get a reaction from her. “I think he knew he was funny, he has a cheeky little personality,” she said.

Either way, she doesn’t regret filming this hilarious and adorable encounter.

“I love filming him doing cute things like that, I love being able to look back on those moments and share them with my family,” she said.

Blue also hopes that moms who might be going through similar things will find comfort in the clip. “You’re not alone if your child only wants to say daddy, even though he can say mommy,” she said.
