REMERTON, Ga. (WALB) – One person is confirmed dead following a police officer-involved shooting between Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1.

The shooting involved the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) and the Remerton Police Department (RPD) near Remerton Bars. One person is confirmed dead and a police officer is confirmed shot.

There are several posts and comments on social media about the details of the incident.

WALB is working to confirm these details with law enforcement, as well as learn the severity of the officer’s injuries.

A request for information was sent to RPD and LCSO, as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The SPR confirmed with WALB that it was not conducting an investigation.

Last year, WALB reported that around Halloween, 21-year-old VSU student Brianna Long was killed by a stray bullet while cleaning the bar in the same area where the shooting involving the officer had taken place.
