MSU Rival Michigan Loses Top Recruit Due to Desperation

Bryce Underwood of Belleville, Michigan, is the nation’s No. 1 quarterback and prospect, according to 247Sports. I’ve seen it play out personally – there aren’t enough words to describe how good the outlook for 2025 is. People often use the term “generational talent.” I would use it for Underwood.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports compared Underwood to Vince Young, arguably the most dominant college quarterback of all time. Ivins also rated Underwood as a first-round pick.

“A potential franchise signal-caller with the ideal blend of size, arm talent and athleticism,” Ivins wrote. “He hasn’t lacked command on the field midway through senior season, which makes sense given his resume: 48-plus career starts and 165-plus touchdowns. Those numbers are further amplified by the fact that ‘He’s extremely young for the grade and won’t be 20 until his third year of college… However, the biggest revelation from his final prep campaign was his ability to. moving the chains with his legs while increasing his speed and dodging defenders as an open-field runner with a frame that stands north of 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds. He displays excellent pocket awareness for his age. and don’t panic as the pressure increases.

“Does his best to stay on schedule and hit his marks with authority, demonstrating the ability to not only challenge tight coverage windows with speed up the middle, but also throw with touch and anticipation to the second and third levels. Projects as a one-year multi-impact player for a College Football Playoff contender who has a chance to become a first-round NFL draft pick with his tools. He might need a semester or so. two to find his spot, but he’s capable of chasing big plays and distributing them that move could be difficult to avoid off the field, even if he’s still learning how to dissect complex defenses.

This recognition report brings a lot of satisfaction. Perhaps that’s why the Michigan Wolverines are desperate to pry Underwood from LSU. They would offer a $5 million NIL package to match the Tigers. All this attention must pay off, because it’s costing the Wolverines more than just money.

They just lost a blue-chip four-star quarterback commit in Carter Smith. The No. 14 quarterback in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. Ivins praised Smith.

“A scrappy, dual-threat quarterback who finds ways to win games,” Ivins wrote. “…Should be considered a mobile signal-caller with tools to mold. He will likely need a lot of time to improve mechanics and footwork, but he has what it takes to elevate a Power Four offense that wants to move the quarterback and get them involved in the running game.

Smith is an elite talent and it will hurt even more if the Wolverines don’t pull off the magic trick and land Underwood. If it costs them Brady Hart, all bets are off.
