Collins Dictionary announced its choice for word of the year on Thursday, October 31, with an article about X and a tongue-in-cheek version that included its runner-up choices.

“Are you lacking confidence? Feeling a little below average? I have exactly the mindset you need, and it can be summed up in one word: kid,” David Shariatmadari, wrote on the dictionary website. “Brat represents different things to different people: a sharp attitude, a garish aesthetic, and even a campaign slogan. And even though it started out as the title of an album by pop singer Charli XCX, it clearly captured something of the spirit of the times, a summer that goes beyond a potentially short-lived but exuberant summer of kids.'”

“Brat”, consisting of 15 songs, sold more than 500,000 units in August. The first of his albums to reach this milestone in almost 10 years, according to the graphical data.

After Kamala Harris entered the presidential race, Charli XCX posted on X that “Kamala IS a kid.”

In a Interview on TikTok Earlier this year, Charli a depression but celebrating through it. It’s honest, direct and a little volatile. It’s Brat.
