Texarkana, Ark. appoints new police chief

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KSLA) – The city of Texarkana, Ark., announced its new police chief on Friday, November 1.

The position was filled by current interim chief Ed Chattaway.

City Manager Tyler Richards said he was “completely confident” that Chattaway was the best choice for the job out of 25 applicants.

Chattaway is a 29-year veteran of TAPD and has served in numerous positions. He said the following about his new position:

“I am truly honored to have been named Chief of Police of the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department. I would like to thank City Manager Tyler Richards for this opportunity as well as the Public Service Commission. This role is not just a position for me; it is a profound responsibility that I accept wholeheartedly. My main goal is to work collaboratively with our dedicated officers and the community to be proactive in fighting crime and continue to strengthen our relationships with our community so that Texarkana is a place where people will want to live and locate their businesses. The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will achieve a level of excellence that our residents rightly expect and deserve. Together, we will foster trust, improve public safety and ensure our department is a model of integrity and professionalism. I am excited about the journey ahead and the positive changes we will implement in our community.
