Shelton man accused of killing kitten because it bored him

SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Shelton man was arrested Friday after police say he killed a family member’s kitten after it annoyed him.

Krzystof Bakota, 47, was charged with first-degree malicious murder of an animal.

A family member told police she left her kitten in Bakota’s care while he was away. Bakota told her the kitten had gone missing and was later found dead in the backyard.

But Bakota admitted to other family members that he killed the kitten because it annoyed him. Police say he threw the kitten against a table and then off the back deck.

An autopsy of the kitten showed it had multiple skull fractures with marked hemorrhage and blunt force trauma. The cause of death was determined to be trauma to the left body wall and pulmonary hemorrhage.

Police said it was considered “highly unlikely” that the kitten was killed by another animal.

Bakota was being held on $25,000 bail and was due to appear for arraignment in Derby Magistrates Court on November 1.
