Election 2024: MN voting questions to know before Election Day – ABC 6 News

(ABC 6 News) — On Tuesday, November 5, voters will head to their polling places to vote on Election Day.

For Minnesota voters, you may notice that a number of questions on your ballot must be answered with a “yes” or “no.” To find more information about what will appear on your ballot, click here. Information on each Minnesota ballot question can be found below.

Minnesota Constitutional Amendment

For the entire state, a constitutional amendment will ask voters whether or not a portion of Minnesota Lottery proceeds will go toward wildlife conservation. The amendment question reads:

Should the Minnesota Constitution be amended to protect drinking water sources and water quality in lakes, rivers and streams; conserve wildlife habitat and natural areas; improve air quality; and expand access to parks and trails by expanding the transfer of state-run lottery profits to the Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund, and dedicate the profits for these purposes?

School referendums

A number of school districts in our area will also include questions on the ballot. Information regarding each question can be found below.

Byron Public Schools

In Byron, voters will see a question on their ballot that reads as follows regarding the referendum:

The Board of Trustees of Independent School District No. 531 (Byron Public Schools), Minnesota, has proposed increasing the school district’s general education revenue by $800 per student, subject to an annual increase at the rate inflation. The proposed new referendum revenue authorization would be levied for the first time in 2024 for taxes payable in 2025 and applicable for ten (10) years, unless otherwise revoked or reduced by law. Will the new referendum authorization proposed by the Board of Trustees of Independent School District No. 531 (Byron Public Schools), Minnesota, be approved?

Dover-Eyota

The Dover-Eyota School District will have a ballot question regarding its referendum. The question reads:

The Independent School District No. 533 (Dover-Eyota) Board of Education has proposed increasing its general education revenue by $950 per student. The proposed revenue referendum authorization would apply for ten years from taxes payable in 2025 and would increase each year by the rate of inflation from taxes payable in 2026, unless revoked or reduced in accordance with the law. Will the revenue increase proposed by the Independent School District No. 533 school board be approved?

Kingsland Public Schools

The Kingsland Public Schools district will put two questions on the ballot this year regarding a building bond referendum. The first question reads:

Shall the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 2137 (Kingsland Public Schools), Minnesota be authorized to issue general school construction bonds in an amount not to exceed $8,900,000 for the purpose of provide funds for the acquisition and improvement of school sites and facilities. , including improving the maintenance of school buildings and facilities, including but not limited to roofs, repairing exterior walls, repairing parking lots, and improving infrastructure of the building?

The second question, dependent on the success of the first, reads as follows:

If School District Question 1 is approved, will the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 2137 (Kingsland Public Schools), Minnesota (the “School District”) be authorized to issue general bonds for the construction of schools in an amount not to exceed $11,500,000 for the purpose of providing funds for the acquisition and improvement of school sites and facilities, including, but not limited to, a new multi-purpose gymnasium physical education, locker rooms, a strength and conditioning area and a multi-purpose room for large groups?

Rochester Public Schools

The Rochester Public Schools district is asking voters to vote by referendum this year. The question reads:

The Board of Trustees of Independent School District No. 535 (Rochester Public Schools), Minnesota, has proposed increasing the school district’s general education revenue by $1,133 per student, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation. The proposed new referendum revenue authorization would be levied for the first time in 2024 for taxes payable in 2025 and applicable for ten (10) years, unless otherwise revoked or reduced by law. Will the new referendum authorization proposed by the Board of Trustees of Independent School District No. 535 (Rochester Public Schools), Minnesota, be approved?

Whalan Town

The Town of Whalan will ask its voters a question about whether or not the town should transfer its entire electric utility system to MiEnergy starting next year. The question reads:

Should the Town of Whalan transfer ownership of its entire municipal electricity system, including infrastructure and services, to MiEnergy Cooperative, effective January 1, 2025?
