Former president Donald Trump perplexed Friday in Michigan, where he told rally attendees he had “beautiful white skin” after criticizing the vice president Kamala Harris.

Trump is locked in a tight race with Harris, who, if elected, would become the first female president. She would also become the first president of Indian descent and the second black president.

The Republican candidate repeatedly referred to Harris as “an individual with a low IQ» during gatherings. Somewhat infamously, he questioned Harris’ blackness during a speech at a conference of black journalists in July.

“I didn’t know she was black until she turned black a few years ago,” Trump said. said at the time. “And now she wants to be known as Black.” So, I don’t know, is she Indian or black?

Speaking in Warren, Michigan, Trump criticized Harris, then complained that her campaign had kept him from going to the beach.

“She wants to tax businesses,” he said. “You know what happens when you tax them? They leave. A lot of these big companies, you know, are run by – they live in Switzerland. They have a very glamorous life. In fact, they have the life I could have had if I had decided not to do this. Someone said to me, “Are you glad you did it?” I said, “Absolutely, but I could have been on the most beautiful beaches in the world.” I have the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The former president then bragged about having “beautiful white skin” and lamented that the presidential race had prevented him from getting a proper tan:

I could have been at the great Turnberry in Scotland. I could have been anywhere I wanted to be. I could have had these waves hitting me in the face. This beautiful white skin of mine would look nice and tan. I have the whitest skin because I never have time to go out in the sun. But I have this beautiful white, and you know what? It could have been nice, tanned, handsome.

Trump then told the crowd that he would “make America great again,” even if he had to do it without a tan.
