A cafe filled with 21 signs detailing rules and regulations has left customers in shock. The reviews were spotted at Hidden Gem Cafe in Heaton Park in Manchester.

They inform punters that dogs are not allowed, children must be supervised at all times and the toilets are for the exclusive use of customers. Anyone caught with food or drink that was not purchased from the business will also be asked to leave, the signs continue to state.

Journalist Jack Fifield, 26, noticed the signs when he visited the garden center where the cafe is based and joked online: “Anyone know if there are any rules I have to follow at this cafe? “

There are a number of signs that repeat the same messages, discouraging people from eating their own food and banning dogs on the patio or inside the cafe.

But the owner has defended the signs and insists he is “seeing more signs in M&S” and “don’t know what the problem is”.

One social media user said: “All requests are reasonable, but it’s extremely funny how many signs there are. »

Another joked: “A simple ‘f*** off’ would have saved effort” and a third joked: “Rules are rules.” A fourth social media user said: “Things like this really piss me off.

“Like most of these things are common sense. It makes you think the owners are assholes and in which case I’d rather take my habits elsewhere.”

Jack said he came across the cafe while visiting the beauty spot, just north of City of Manchester center, one day off. After a relaxing walk, he came across a garden center and headed to the cafe for a bite to eat.

He said: “I was shocked to be greeted by a sign informing me that I might be asked to leave if I consumed my own food or drink.

“As I approached the cafe to buy a slice of cake, I noticed a lot more signs with different rules and regulations. I thought this seemed wildly exaggerated, but then I saw the funny side.

“I bought a cake and a hot chocolate and sat outside counting all the signs. Then I took out my water bottle and felt like I was breaking the rules when I took sips of it I was afraid I’d be kicked out, but of course I didn’t.

“The staff were friendly enough. I saw one guy throwing his leftover chips on the ground to feed the birds, but there was no sign saying not to do that, so I guess he was following the rules of the coffee.”

The cafe manager, who identified himself only as Mark, defended the number of signs and said they were only meant to remind customers of the ground rules.

He said: “The signs are things like ‘please keep your dogs on a lead’. Just this morning a guy was running around with his dog without a lead and a guy tripped and hit his head .

“They also say please only consume food and drink purchased from the store, this is not a picnic area.

“It’s a unique site, there are entrances to the store. I went to Marks and Spencer this morning and saw more signs than I looked up at, I don’t understand what the problem is.”
