No one injured in vehicle fire at Ontonagon Area High School

ONTONAGON, Mich. (WLUC) – No one was injured in a minivan fire at Ontonagon Area High School.

The Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department says they were dispatched to the high school around 5:45 p.m.

A firefighter was already at the school for a Halloween carnival, according to the department. They grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran towards the van.

Other nearby firefighters also responded and helped control the smoke, the department said.

When Engine 18 arrived, firefighters said there was very little smoke from the minivan when they disconnected the vehicle’s battery.

The left rear panel of the van was torn out to ensure there was no fire and that the fire was completely extinguished, according to the department.

Firefighters say they evacuated the scene after 30 minutes.

Dishaw Towing was contacted to remove the minivan from the parking lot.

“Rapid measures made it possible to prevent several vehicles from catching fire and to minimize damage to the vehicle involved,” said the firefighters.
