From Hopeful to Scared, Hawaii Voters Prepare for Potential Change in Presidential Election

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Voters in Hawaii are experiencing a range of emotions as the election approaches, from hope to fear.

In Alewa Heights, Donald Trump signs hang from a tree and there are sporadic posters for the Democratic and Republican state House candidates, but no signs for Kamala Harris.

This is a signal that for the president, there is no swing in Blue Hawaii.

In a house flying a flag, James Barboza, 69, proudly displays his allegiance.

“We have to stop the bleeding,” Barboza said.

“This man loves the country,” he added.

In the home of 89-year-old Richard Nakaganeku, there are signs listing the two local candidates running for the House of Representatives.

He says he’s supported Democrats his whole life and voted for Kamala Harris calling her smart.

“I think the polls are screwed. I think it will be Harris,” Nakaganeku said.

“People in America are not that stupid,” he added.

Nakaganeku jokes that he will move to Japan if Trump wins, while Barboza says Americans should protect their wallets and buy gold if Harris wins.

With the election just days away, Hawaii voters are watching for a wave of potential change.
