Cross River LG polls: misused election materials – PDP sounds the alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that election materials intended for the conduct of the Cross River LGA elections were misappropriated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The allegation was made by the PDP candidates for Saturday’s elections in Yakurr and Obudu councils, Ms Jennifer Usani and Mr Emmanuel Asinde respectively.

They denounced the absence of voting materials in their respective LGAs at the time of filling this report for the election which was to begin at 8:00 a.m.

The PDP candidates said that not only were there no materials, but there was no semblance of elections in these areas.

“There is no one, neither polling agents nor security agencies, at the Obudu polling stations as we speak and obviously there cannot be voters in the absence of officials and security.

“Indeed, we were ready for the elections but it seems that they were never ready for us,” said the Yakurr candidate.

Also speaking, Asinde, who corroborated his counterpart Yakurr’s account, also claimed that the voting was only taking place in the APC candidate’s Obudu ward.

“There is no election in the 10 constituencies except that of the APC candidate in Obudu,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state’s election arbiter has refuted claims that materials were misappropriated and said voting is currently underway across the state.

A commissioner of the state election commission, Mr Daniel Edet, refuted the claim, saying the commission had worked hard to ensure smooth elections.
