The caretaker government today (November 2) formed a 17-member committee for the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, with writer and filmmaker Dr Ebadur Rahman as the convener.

Additionally, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Md Mahfuz Alam will act as co-convener of the committee.

Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Md Nahid Islam announced the establishment of the committee at a press briefing in front of Ganabhaban in Dhaka city, according to a press release from the ministry issued today.

Other committee members included writer and human rights activist Mustain Billah; Jahid Sabuj, professor at the Department of Fine Arts, Jagannath University; Dr. Nurul Momen Bhuiyan, professor at the Department of Anthropology, National University; photographer, teacher and director of the research and publication department of the Shilpakala Academy Tanzim Wahab; writer and researcher Sahul Ahmed Munna; the architect Marina Tabassum; the Director General of the National Museum of Bangladesh; the director general of the Department of Archeology; the chief engineer of the Department of Public Works; Department of Architecture, Additional Chief Architect Md Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan; the president or representative of the Bangladesh Institute of Architects; architect Bayezid Mahbub Khandaker; and architect Tanzim Hasan Selim of Design Works Group, read the statement.

In addition, one or two student representatives will be inducted into the committee later, it is added.

Speaking to reporters, Nahid said that the memories of the repression of the last 16 years in Bangladesh and the history of the student movement and its victory will be preserved in the museum.

He, however, said they were planning to build a replica of “Aynaghar”, or “The Mirror House” – the infamous black site or detention center run by the AL regime – in the museum which will be transformed into research center. .

Mahfuz Alam, while speaking to reporters, also said that the people of Bangladesh destroyed the arrogance of the fascist government after it entered Ganabhaban on August 5. Over the past 16 years, Ganabhaban has become a place of suffering for the people, he added.
