‘It was just mothers’ instinct,’ says police officer who found missing baby

It was a heartwarming scene. A A 2-month-old baby returned to his mother after a frantic Amber Alert, a massive search was launched across Ohio.

Columbus officers picked up the baby and also offered to gently touch him. The emotions were strong and the fear thick.

Two-month-old Caius Burris was reported missing in Fairfield County. Deputies were searching for the little boy and his 27-year-old father.

The massive search across Ohio led Columbus officers to an apartment complex on the Southeast Side, where they found the little boy.

WSYX cameras captured officers comforting 2-month-old Caius Burris, even giving him a bottle.

For Agents Krystal Mori and Jason Ellsesser, it’s a moment they’ll never forget.

“It was a good feeling. A happy ending to know that the child was safe, that he was going to come back to where he belonged. We thought maybe Dad was going to hurt himself and have the child. So main concern was ‘Where is this kid for me?'” Mori said.

“Someone who wants to harm themselves, they’re not in the right state of mind. So let’s get the child back and we can take care of everything else later,” Ellsesser said.

The couple, both parents themselves, spoke exclusively to WSYX. Not only did the two men discuss the tense minutes of the search, but also the tender contact they made afterwards.

“It was really nice to know that the baby was safe and then at that point it became clear that he needed something. He was sad, he was crying, screaming. We wanted to make sure that he he was fed, changed and taken care of.” » said Mori.

“He had been missing for a while, so we didn’t know when the last time he changed his diaper was, when the last time he ate was, and I thought, well, he was being held, so we “I’ll choose options B and C, which is he needs food and he needs his diaper changed. So, I went to Giant Eagle and bought some diapers and some food,” Ellsesser said.

In a job filled with stress and danger, both said moments like this truly reflect what community service is all about.

“It was just mothers’ instinct. To take care of a crying child and love him and love him until mom is here,” Mori said.

The baby’s father, Russell Burris, was later arrested and faces domestic violence charges.

For Mori and Ellsesser, reuniting baby Caius with his mother is an image they will always remember. For them, it’s a reminder of their passion for helping others.
