LG autonomy: the coalition is alarmed by Soludo’s resistance to the Supreme Court’s rulings

A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), under the auspices of the Save Nigerian Democracy Group (SNDG), has raised the alarm over what it described as the insidious actions of Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the state. ‘Anambra regarding the judgments of the Supreme Court.

The coalition, which includes the Nigerian Democratic Movement, Institute of Civil Disobedience, Campaign for Greater Nigeria, No Alternative to Peace Initiative and the Advancement of Freedom and Rights of Citizens, was led by Cornelius Ajagbe , Valentine Isuku, Maxwell Owobokiri and Ephraim Aintonje.

They expressed dismay over attempts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to lift Nigeria out of its current economic and financial quagmire through organic rural development that will determine the national development index by upholding the Supreme Court in the historic judgment which granted full financial autonomy to the country. Local government councils, Soludo fought back through the state legislature.

The coalition believes that it was in part to mitigate Soludo that NSA National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu created a new directorate and appointed Lami Chinade as director of the new State Liaison Directorate within the Bureau. of the National Security Advisor (ONSA). whose duty is above all to ensure that LG’s funds are not tempered in any form.

The coalition said it was unfortunate that Soludo, rather than confronting insecurity issues in Anambra, waged a misguided crusade by sitting on appeal against a Supreme Court judgment on LG autonomy.

“It is truly disconcerting that Governor Soludo believes that the third tier of government should not exist. More worrying is the fact that he may find the courage to assert that granting financial autonomy to the LG would lead to chaos,” the Coalition said in a statement signed by Cornelius Ajagbe, SNDG coordinator.

“Soludo’s self-concession and narcissistic attitude are the reason he considers himself omniscient. Therefore, even the judgment of the Supreme Court should be subjected to its pettiness. Soludo’s contempt for the presidency is legendary.

“Perhaps his all-knowing attitude and demagoguery explains why he wasted state resources in a failed attempt to rewrite the Supreme Court judgment on the leadership of APGA against Chief Edozie Njoku which was declared time and again and again legitimate national president of APGA.

“Governor. Soludo’s inability to accept defeat on the issue of APGA leadership, tame his ego and bind the heartbroken exposes him as a man perpetually seeking selfish and selfish interests.

“After wasting a huge amount of Anambra State funds to oust Chief Edozie Njoku, APGA National Chairman, Soludo targeted LG funds to finance his re-election.

“Driven by his antithetical and antisocial behaviors, Soludo led a group of governors to initiate the removal of the EFCC.

“Even though the global economy is not in the best shape, it is worth noting that President Tinubu deliberately decided to withdraw 10% from the federation account, while leaving the states with 90%. This is contrary to what we are used to before. Normally, this decision should prompt state governors to look away from LG funds.

“Despite all these gestures from the Presidency, some governors have their eyes on LG funds. It is this insatiable greed and audacity to bring down the law to achieve this impunity that we are confronted with. “
