Why does Sakaja need a new manifesto?

Sakaja said his administration had performed exceptionally well over the past two years and may not need as much time to deliver on promises made to Nairobi residents.

Speaking at a Dishi na County breakfast meeting in Nairobi, the first-term governor said if his team continues with the same zeal and passion to serve the people of the city, he could be forced to write a new manifesto before 2027.

“I have my manifesto at my bedside and on my desk. I can assure you that we have ticked so many boxes and I want to thank this team for the good work we have done over the last two years. We have achieved a lot and could even launch a new manifesto before 2026,” said the county leader.

Sakaja particularly praised the Dishi na County program, highlighting its significant positive impact on the lives of children in Nairobi.

According to the governor, enrollment in Nairobi primary schools has increased by 34% since the program was launched a year ago.

“It’s so rewarding to conceptualize an idea and implement it, turn it into reality. It’s an idea I had when I was still a senator. I formulated it in the Senate, and I I am happy that it is now a reality,” he added.

Sakaja said since its launch, the Dishi na County program has delivered 30 million meals to over 200 public primary schools in Nairobi.

“We have built 17 modern and eco-friendly kitchens across the country. We employ 2,000 people who work in different departments. 85% of them are women and youth. We purchase food products from our farmers across the country, especially in Busia, Nakuru, Meru, Machakos, etc. It’s a whole ecosystem,” the governor said.

What other plans does Sakaja have for Nairobi?

Sakaja said that in partnership with the national government, the county aims to build 5,000 classrooms to reduce overcrowding in public schools.

The county chief said plans were underway to increase the capital’s water supply in response to the city’s water shortage.

He added that one of the county’s initiatives to address the water shortage is the commissioning of the Northern Collector Tunnel to provide Nairobi residents with an additional 140 million liters of water.

Sakaja said Nairobi’s water demand is currently 900 million liters per day, compared to a supply of 525 million liters per day.

He said he was convinced that the shortage would be a thing of the past in the coming years.

Sakaja also resurfaced city lanes, redeveloped estate roads, opened drainages and widened feeder roads across the city.
