Authorities searched a hotel and a vehicle Saturday morning for a possible explosive device.

According to the Stillwater Police Department, the search began following an arrest in Oak Park Heights Friday evening.

Stillwater police were unable to comment on the initial arrest, but said a vehicle linked to the person arrested was towed to Stillwater.

However, authorities later learned there may have been homemade explosives in the car.

The St. Paul Bomb Squad was called to clear out the vehicle as well as a hotel in Stillwater where the arrested person was staying.

The Stillwater Police Department said the bomb squad worked to clear the vehicle and hotel.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, they have recovered “suspicious items” and will be examining them in the coming days to determine what they are.

Stillwater police said there is no known threat to the public at this time and believe the area is safe and the suspect remains in custody.
