Sébastien StanDonald Trump’s controversial film The apprentice became available to watch at home for American viewers.

The film, which released in theaters last monthfocuses on the former US president’s early career in New York real estate and his relationship with his mentor Roy Cohn (played by Succession(It’s Jeremy Strong).

American viewers can now buy and rent The apprentice via Main video (costing $24.99 and $19.99). The film is not yet available in the UK – although fans can. pre-order for £19.99 ahead of its release on a date yet to be confirmed.

The movie debuted to mixed receptionbut has since earned a positive fresh score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Alongside Strong and Stan (who plays Trump), Ali Abbasi’s film also stars Maria Bakalova as Ivana, Trump’s first wife, and Martin Donovan as his father Fred.

The film proved controversial after initially struggling to find a US distributor, despite legal threats from Trump’s US presidential campaign team.

Speaking about The Apprentice in a recent interview, Abbasi told the Los Angeles Times that the film was not a “political hit”.

“It is the nature of politics to rationalize things to achieve a certain effect, in order to gain or regain power,” he said. “And that’s really not the project here. We all want to explore the complexities.

“It’s an experience and it’s an experience of the complexity of these characters. Also, for me as an outsider, it was an opportunity to look at the American system and the total institutionalized corruption that is part of it , at least from my point of view.”

The Apprentice is available for purchase and rental on Main video in the US, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
