3 Jaguars who prove the Eagles shouldn’t take Jacksonville’s defense lightly

The Philadelphia Eagles return home on Sunday to face the Jacksonville Jaguars and hope to earn their sixth victory this season. They should be able to score some points on the Jags defense. Duval’s best has already given up fourth in total yards in the NFL (3,057).

Jalen Hurts should be able to light up this team with his legs and arm. Only one team has allowed more passing yards than Jacksonville has allowed this season.

The Jaguars have also struggled to keep points off the board in 2024. They have allowed 20 or more points in seven of their eight games. However, they played badly, but they are not without playmakers. Here are three that could bother the Birds in Sunday’s game.

Travon Walker has been Jacksonville’s sack machine. He leads the team with 6.5 QB takedowns. He’s already on pace to eclipse his career high (ten sacks in 2023). He only needs four more sacks this year to do it.

The former No. 1 overall selection has been gaining momentum of late. In his last four games, he has recorded 4.5 sacks and 13 tackles.

Walker’s best game of the season came in the 37–34 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, where he had three sacks and five tackles.

Ventrell Miller spent his first NFL season on injured reserve, but in his second he showed promise. He is potentially a tackling machine for first-year defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.

Miller leads all Jags defenders in solo tackles (38) and total tackles (54). He achieved this despite only starting four of the first eight games.

He’s been flying all over the field as of late, racking up 45 tackles in the last five games. He proves that the NFL Draft is not an exact science. He’s a former fourth-round pick out of Florida who played more like a late or second rounder.

Devin Lloyd had a knack for finding the ball carrier. This has been the case for two seasons now. 242 tackles came in his first two. His third was another showcase as he ranked second defensively with 50 total tackles. His 26 solo saves rank fifth among his teammates.

Lloyd’s best game of the season so far came in Week 7. It was one of the few bright moments of the Jags’ season, a 32-16 victory over the New England Patriots.

This one was in London, England. He threw 11 tackles and a sack. Philly will have to keep its head high this Sunday.

The Eagles offense should have a field day against the Jaguars defense. Walker, Miller and Lloyd are good but should also be potential casualties in the assault. This is a good Jacksonville team in parts, but the Birds are just plain better.

Philly should win and win easily, but if for some reason the Birds can’t score 20 or more points against this defense, questions will arise. Frankly, there should be. Philly is too talented for this game to be a stressful affair. We’ll all see each other at the game on Sunday.
