DC: Farm firefighting must continue till harvest ends in Ludhiana

DC Jitendra Jorwal is mobilizing civilian and police teams to prevent farm fires, educate farmers and provide machinery to manage rice stubble responsibly.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jitendra Jorwal said instructions have been given to the teams to leave no stone unturned for the next 15 days in the field and prevent fire outbreaks. Joint teams of civilians and police worked on the ground even during the holidays and created awareness among farmers about the harmful effects of farm fires. The teams also ensure that farmers can access agricultural machinery that will help them manage paddy stubble.

The civil and police teams comprising officials from PPCB, agriculture, revenue, BDPO, DSP and SHO are organizing daily marches in villages to deter violators.

Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, the teams are coordinating with sarpanches, youth clubs, village committees and other stakeholders to create awareness about the ill-effects of stubble burning. As many as 211 nodal officers and 90 cluster officers along with their police counterparts are closely monitoring their respective areas to prevent incidents.

Jorwal said 8,978 machines including balers, rakes, super seeders, smart seeders, surface seeders, zero seeders, RMB plows, mulchers, straw choppers, super SMS, combine harvesters, rotary slashers and tractors, were supplied to farmers through custom recruitment centers. , companies and groups.

The DC also appealed to the farmers of the district to act responsibly and not burn paddy stubble in the larger interest of the people. He mentioned that there is an urgent need to raise awareness among the population, especially farmers, about the effects of rice stubble burning, which poses a danger to human health and the environment.
