Palm Coast man accused of threatening workers with machete because ‘he was inconvenienced’ by road block

PALM COAST, Florida. – A 43-year-old man was arrested Wednesday and accused of threatening workers at a stormwater inspection and maintenance company with a machete in Palm Coast.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the workers told deputies the man was upset because they had temporarily blocked the road while they were reversing one of their vehicles and that they did not ‘had no signs posted.

However, deputies said they noticed several signs indicating the presence of workers along the road near the intersection of Belle Terre Parkway and Kaywood Place.

The workers told police that the man drove around their construction site, then stopped his truck and got out, shouting, “I’m going to cut up some shit,” while walking toward them with a machete, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said one of the workers told them he feared for his life and ran toward a wooded area to avoid the man. The crew also said the man got back into his car and sped off after seeing traffic begin to back up along the road.

Officers found the man about 3 miles away on Zerington Court and said when he was questioned, he admitted to having several machetes in his truck. Deputies also saw a machete on the dashboard.

Officials say the man told officers he was stopped by “some guys” and was upset about the lack of signs. He then got out of his truck and began arguing with them.

The man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

“This man threatened several workers with a machete because he was embarrassed,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This guy became unhinged when he came out and confronted the workers who were simply doing their job. If he had waited patiently, he would not have visited the Green Roof Inn. Dive deep and be patient. It’s better than being arrested because you can’t control your anger.

The sheriff’s office said that while being transported to the detention center, the man began hitting his head against the partition, causing a small gash. He was then transported to a hospital where he refused medical treatment.

He was then taken to Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center and later released on bail.
