Tigers earn solid win in final home game of the season

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Tigers entered Saturday hoping to bounce back from a homecoming heartbreak a week ago. Savannah State faced one of its oldest rivals in its final home game of the season.

There was a shootout in the first half – 21-19 after two quarters – but the scoring slowed down in the second half. The Tigers got on the board first in the third quarter on a Shamarcus Poole touchdown run from the half-yard line.

In the fourth quarter, Albany State trailed by 9 points and Ahlik Booker stepped up to make a big defensive stop, forcing a turnover on downs.

The Golden Rams were down but not out, and with 3:20 left, ASU scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to just two points.

With less than a minute to play, the Tigers had to go for it on fourth down and hope to stop the defense. But it would never get to that point – Albany State fumbled the punt and Savannah State recovered. The Tigers ran out the clock and held on to win 28-26.
