2 days before the 2024 elections: how many electoral votes does the winner need

PennLive is counting down the days to the elections of November 5, 2024 in Pennsylvania. Here’s what you need to know today:

We are in the final stretch of a long and controversial electoral season which has brought many twists and turns, notably that of the president Joe Biden drops out of the race in July. Vice President Kamala Harris took her place against former President Donald Trump, who narrowly survived. an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania during the summer.

Today and tomorrow, Harris and Trump will make their final efforts, which include events in Pennsylvania and Michigantwo of the states deemed necessary for the winner of the White House.

To take the presidency, a the candidate must win 270 votes in the electoral college. Each state gets as many electors as it has members of Congress; there are 538 voters. Pennsylvania has 19.

How to vote in Pennsylvania

Election day is Tuesday, November 5. Polling stations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you are in line to vote before 8:00 p.m., you can still vote.

The deadline to register to vote in this year’s presidential election has passed. Registrations will be available again from November 6.

Mail-in ballots are also expected before 8 p.m. on November 5; postmarks do not count. The deadline has passed to request a postal vote, but emergency mail-in ballots may be available.

You must vote at the polling station where you are registered. The Pennsylvania Department of State has an online search tool this can tell you where it is.

Only new voters must present identification in a polling station.
