Podcaster Joe Rogan pressed Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman on Saturday about how the Democratic Party has manipulated immigration policy in recent years.

Rogan spoke to Fetterman about a wide variety of political topics ranging from Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 to how immigration is a key issue in today’s election. Many Democrats often cite a bipartisan border bill that was killed in late May, arguing that Republicans don’t want to solve the problem, while many Republicans respond that the bill compromised too much on immigration , which ultimately made it a failure.

Fetterman paraphrased a politician from decades ago who suggested that Republicans and Democrats didn’t actually want to solve the ongoing immigration crisis, arguing that he had been vindicated by how Republicans in 2024 ” had the opportunity to make a comprehensive – bipartisan – border and it happened. because Trump said it was a bad deal after negotiating it with the other side. »

The host of the podcast, However, he recalled that the agreement included numerous concessions that Republicans concerned about the border considered unacceptable.

“But didn’t this agreement also involve an amnesty?” » asked Rogan.

“That’s true, yes,” Fetterman said.

“And didn’t that deal also involve a significant number of illegal aliens being allowed into the country every year, I think it was 2 million people?” » asked Rogan.

“It’s, uh, well, yeah,” Fetterman replied.

Rogan continued, noting that at the end of the day, “it was still the same kind of situation and their fear is exactly what I talked about. That these people will be moved to swing states and that will be used basically to rig these states and make them blue forever“.

Fetterman responded that he wasn’t sure that was the case.

“I think it’s really important that we have an honest conversation…” Fetterman began.

Rogan said it seemed “logical” that if enough people entered illegally and settled in swing states and started on the path to citizenship, then “you could basically rig those states.”

“Undeniably, immigration is changing our nation,” Fetterman said. “I haven’t spent a lot of time in Texas but it’s very clear that immigration has remade Texas and I think that’s generally a good thing.”
