Parents of murdered son ask Calgary truck thief to return urn containing his ashes

A Saskatchewan family mourning the abduction and murder of their son is asking for his remains to be returned after they and their truck were stolen from a Calgary home.

On October 29, Shannon Garrioch was in Calgary visiting the father of her late son Allan, who was murdered in early 2020. Garrioch said she was in the process of moving to Calgary.

On October 30, she woke up to find her truck containing Allan’s ashes was missing.

“The ashes are in a cream-colored urn with silver trim,” she said in an email to CTV News. “Any type of contact is appreciated.”

Garrioch said she contacted police, who discovered contents of her truck in a dumpster, but not the urn containing her son’s ashes.

“We just want our son’s remains back,” she said.

On February 25, 2020, Allan Douglas Garrioch, who lived in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, was reported missing after losing contact with his family.

Three people were ultimately found guilty of several charges, including murder, forcible confinement, breaking and entering and assault with a weapon.

Garrioch’s remains were discovered in the rural municipality of Bayne, Saskatchewan.

Allan’s remains were stolen in this vehicle on October 30 in Calgary.

CTV News has contacted Calgary police for further details.
