American woman involved in 1990 “killer clown” case released from prison

A woman who pleaded guilty to murdering her husband’s estranged wife in 1990 in Florida has been released from prison.

Sheila Keen-Warren, 61, spent 18 months in prison for her involvement in the infamous “killer clown” case.

Last year, Keen-Warren agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder charges. Authorities said she shot Marlene Warren while dressed as a clown more than 30 years ago.

After years of mystery and intrigue surrounding the murder, investigators linked Keen-Warren to the case and arrested her in 2017, although she maintained her innocence.

Keen-Warren was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2023.

His release was not unexpected: Florida law gave him credit for early release for good behavior.

“Sheila Keen-Warren will always be a convicted murderer and will carry that stain every day for the rest of her life,” Palm Beach County State’s Attorney Dave Aronberg said in a statement Saturday. Associated Press.

Keen-Warren accepted the plea deal because she would be released quickly and could have received a life sentence if the case went to trial, said Greg Rosenfeld, Kenn-Warren’s attorney. to the Associated Press.

“We are absolutely delighted that Ms. Keen-Warren will be released from prison and returned to her family,” Mr. Rosenfeld told the outlet. “As we have said from the beginning, she did not commit this crime.”

The victim’s son, Joseph Ahrens, told authorities that the doorbell rang at the family home and his mother opened the door to someone dressed as a clown. The man handed him balloons and then shot him in the face.

Authorities said Keen-Warren had an affair with the victim’s husband, but it wasn’t until DNA testing improved that investigators linked Keen-Warren to the crime.

In 2002, Keen-Warren married Michael Warren.
