The bye week can’t come soon enough for the Badgers as Iowa scores another rushing touchdown with 1:15 left, this one from Jazun Patterson. The Hawkeyes finish with 329 rushing yards tonight, scoring over 40 points for the third straight time at home. The Badgers’ run defense had absolutely no answer to the Hawkeyes’ rushing attack in a miserable 42-10 loss to Iowa.

The Badgers force a 3rd-and-6 from the Iowa 27, but any chance of getting back in the game disappears when Sullivan and Ortwerth connect for a 52-yard reception and an Iowa first down at the UW 21. Two Games later, Sullivan wins the match. ball up the middle to the 1. It takes a few plays, but Johnson scores his third touchdown of the night and as the Iowa offensive line continues its dominance, up 35-10.

The Badgers finally get a big play on a 3rd and 10 when Locke hits Vinny Anthony on a 33-yard run. A second nice throw to Anthony for 15 yards puts the Badgers on the 20 yard line. The quarter ends after two Walker runs produce seven yards, setting up a 3rd and 3 from 13. After Walker is tackled for a loss, the Badgers move on on fourth down and Locke finds Williams for a 14-yard TD on the fourth try. UW Trails, 28-10 with 14:12 left.

Things are going from bad to worse for Brayden Locke and the Badgers. On 3rd and 5 from the Wisconsin 40, Locke was intercepted by Nick Jackson who returned it 28 yards to the UW 12. Two plays later, Sullivan found Jacob Gill in the end zone for a 7-yard score and the Hawkeyes led, 28- 3. Locke is 9 of 20 for 72 yards and two interceptions with 4:17 left in the third quarter

Iowa will continue to pass the ball until the Badgers adjust to stop it. The first eight plays are rushing runs and produce over 60 yards. Iowa has nine plays that produced more than 10 rushing yards. (The Badgers have two). On the 10th straight sprint, Johnson scored from nine yards out and the Hawkeyes had a 21-3 lead. Johnson has 131 yards and two touchdowns and the Hawkeyes have 238 rushing yards as a team.

Having the ball to start the second half is yet another opportunity for the Badgers to get close, but after only a first down and 18 yards rushing, the Badgers have to punt again. Locke is 8 of 18 for just 68 passing yards, despite not throwing this series.

Kaleb Johnson has 92 rushing yards and the Hawkeyes have 152 rushing yards as a team. The Badgers only have 114 total offensive yards

UW gets its first third-down conversion with about a minute left in the half on a 4-yard run from Locke to the Iowa 43. However, a fumble, a chopped block and a false start set up a 2nd and 30 at the Wisconsin 37. Another negative play puts 3rd and 33 28 seconds from the 34th. The Badgers end up throwing the ball at the 10 and go into the locker room trailing by 11.

Nyzier Fourqurean’s tackle on Zach Ortwerth prevents a first down and gives the Badgers a much-needed stop. Unfortunately, a 57-yard punt gave the Badgers the starting position at the 6-yard line. A 13-yard completion to Darrion Dupree keeps the Badgers away from the goal line, but another incomplete pass on another third-and-long forces another punt. However, Iowa only got three yards on three plays, two of which were incomplete, and the Badgers had a chance to get points before the end of the half as they started from their own 30 after another punt punt of more than 50 yards with 2:45 to play.

It’s another three-and-out for the Badgers after Locke’s third throw to Williams slipped out of the receiver’s hands and fell incomplete. The Badgers have yet to convert a third down (0 for 3) with 7:15 left in the half.

A personal foul penalty on Aaron Witt and a 30-yard run by Kamari Moulton help set up Iowa’s 80-yard touchdown run that is capped by a 16-yard run by Johnson. The game suddenly shifted away from Wisconsin as the Hawkeyes extended the lead to 14-3.

The Badgers gain just one yard on three plays and punts on the 26. Atticus Bertrams’ 42-yard punt goes up after an illegal block on the Hawkeyes’ return.

On 1st and 10 from the UW 32, Johnson carries the ball 10 yards and another first down. They call his number and Johnson gets 16 yards on his next touch, taking the ball to the 5. On 3rd and goal, Sullivan keeps it and is pushed into the end zone for the touchdown. The Hawkeyes take a 7-3 lead with 12:45 left in the half.

After a 7-yard run to Pauling and a 5-yard run by Walker, Locke made a costly mistake, as his throw was recovered by Deshaun Lee in open space and returned to the Iowa 47. After a five-yard run, Sullivan’s pass to Jacob Gill went 16 yards and the Hawkeyes were in business at the end of the quarter,

Iowa gets the ball at the 25 and moves the ball to the UW 38. The Badgers had two tackles for loss and a false start by Iowa to force a 56-yard field goal that hit the upright but was missed by Drew Stevens.

Brayden Locke’s 10-yard toss to Will Pauling gives the Badgers a promising start, but after a seven-yard run by Tawee Walker, the Badgers are flagged for a false start. On 3rd and 8, Iowa returns the favor with back-to-back delay penalties to give the Badgers a first down, but Locke is then sacked for a five-yard loss at the 43-yard line. However, one play later, an unsportsmanlike penalty gave the Badgers another first down at the Iowa 43. Two plays later, Locke hit CJ Williams for a gain of 18 and a first down at 25. But another false start and an incomplete throw to the end. The zone sets up 2nd and 15 from the Iowa 30. A quick throw to the outside to Vinny Anthony produces nine yards. On 3rd and 6, Locke’s pass to the opposite side went wide and Nathanial Vakos made a 38-yard field goal to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

It’s a “blackout” in Iowa City with most fans dressed in the Hawkeyes’ dominant color as the two Big Ten rivals play the sixth championship game of the season. Quarterback Brendan Sullivan comes out throwing and completes a nine-yard pass after Iowa receives the kick, but after two runs by Kaleb Johnson for a total of nine yards, an incomplete pass on 3rd and 1 forces a punt and the Badgers take over on their own. 20.

Wisconsin vs. Iowa Football Predictions

Mark Stewart: This has the makings of a great bounce-back game for Wisconsin. The Badgers didn’t play bad last week, but it wasn’t good enough to win. However, the experience of facing a top-three opponent prepares UW for the rigors of winning on the road. Wisconsin 24, Iowa 20

JR Radcliffe: This appears to be an extremely important game for quarterback Braedyn Locke, who has struggled to finish a game this year without committing at least one turnover. Is he the future quarterback of this program? If he is, this would be an opportunity to show it, leading Wisconsin into a tough but winnable road game against a team with its own starting quarterback. The defense has already slowed down a powerful rushing opponent (Rutgers), but Iowa is the Big Ten’s best in that department, led by Kaleb Johnson. It’s close again, but I think Iowa has just a little extra. Iowa 28, Wisconsin 23.
