Sairusi Ceinaturaga Senilawalawa

The man accused of murdering a toddler last month in Cunningham, Nasinu, was not in court this morning as one of his sureties bailed him out.

The Legal Aid lawyer representing Sairusi Ceinaturaga Senilawalawa revealed to the court what happened.

Ceinaturaga remains in remand center.

He is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of committing an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Ceinaturaga allegedly hit the child with an aluminum kitchen spoon, then slammed the child’s head against a wall before throwing him onto a mattress.

It is also alleged that the accused slapped the deceased child’s three-year-old brother and bit him on the face.

Ceinaturaga also allegedly attacked his common-law partner, the mother of the two children.

Police earlier confirmed that medical officials alerted Totogo police after the child was pronounced dead at Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

The matter was brought to the attention of the police because the victim had visible injuries believed to be due to an assault.

Police also said that investigation revealed that the accused had also molested the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found in the house with visible injuries.

The matter will be recalled again on the 18th of this month.
