Two more LA Times editors quit after their approval was blocked

As we all wonder whether a Trump presidency could mean the end of press freedom and embrace of fascism in the United States, we are seeing more and more clear signs that this phenomenon is already here.

The Los Angeles Times has lost two more longtime columnists, the latest in a growing exodus to protest owner Patrick Soon-Shiong’s interference in the paper’s planned support of Kamala Harris, TheWrap can exclusively report.

On Thursday, columnist Karin Klein and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Greene both resigned; Their departures come just a day after editor-in-chief Mariel Garza resigned in protest Wednesday.

Greene has yet to speak publicly about her departure, but in a statement posted to a private forum that was later shared with TheWrap, Klein explained her reasons for leaving.

Echoing Harris’ campaign slogan “we’re not going back,” Klein called Soon-Shiong a “sissy” who threw the editorial team “under the bus” and argued, in essence, that the decision to The stop endorsement was itself a sort of endorsement for Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump.

Soon-Shiong, Klein writes, owns the “right to interfere with editorials; this is the only place he can do it ethically. But in dismissing this particular op-ed, she said he actually created one himself. “A mute, imaginary, invisible response that unfairly implies that (Harris) has serious flaws that somehow put her on the level of Donald Trump.”

And the earlier resignation of Mariel Garza.

And here is Patrick Soon-Shiong’s absurd justification for his bad behavior.

Elon agrees.
