Rivers: control of state resources is at the origin of the political crisis (Fubara)

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State says the struggle for control of state resources is the main cause of the current political crisis plaguing the state.

Fubara made the statement on Sunday during the celebration of the 18th anniversary of Omega Power Ministries, OPM, and the 51st birthday of Chibuzor Chinyere.

DAILY POST recalls that Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, disagreed over control of the political structure of the state.

The feud between the two men triggered a political crisis in the state, leading to conflicting court orders and polarization of the Rivers House of Assembly.

In December 2023, Fubara and Wike signed an eight-point resolution to end the feud.

The peace agreement was signed at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The parties agreed to withdraw all impeachment proceedings and legal proceedings, but despite the peace agreement, the crisis persists.

In a statement by Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor assured that state resources would be used judiciously for the benefit of the people.

He urged the Church to continually pray to remain focused and effectively serve the interests of the state, ensuring good governance and progress.

“There is a reason for this crisis, and that reason is control of the resources of Rivers State.

“The resources of the river state belong to you, and we will ensure that they are used judiciously for the good of the state.

“What you owe us is just one thing: keep praying for us. Let us not lose sight of our attention, because we know that the devil is always at war to derail citizens in their governance.

“Continue to pray for us because what is most important is the interest of the people here, and I believe that with your prayers we will not lose our focus and that the goal of governance will be achieved in the long term. Rivers State,” he said.
