Racing NSW boss and NRL chairman Peter V’landys says the average fee for an NRL match is just $16 and a proposal to ban bookmakers from offering bets free would cause punters to lose more of their own money.

Mr. V’landys doubled down on previous claims that racing and sports betting are less harmful than lotteries, and said that while some gambling advertising could be reduced, recommendations from a recent parliamentary inquiry into gambling were driven by ideology, not fact.
