Four children suffocate to death after being locked in a car in Amreli, Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Four children of a migrant family from Madhya Pradesh tragically suffocated to death in a locked car in Randhia village, Amreli, Gujarat. The children, who were playing nearby, allegedly found the car keys, unlocked the door and got inside. Once inside, they would not have been able to unlock it again, which would have suffocated them. The parents were at work in another area when the incident occurred.

Police reported that two boys and two girls from the same family lost their lives in the tragic incident. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, while authorities at Amreli Taluka police station registered a case of accidental death and also initiated a thorough investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Chirag Desai said, “Sobia Machar, an agricultural laborer from Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, was working with his wife in Bharat Mandani farm in Randhia village, Amreli Taluka. While they were at work, their children stayed home. “Out of her seven children, four of them found the car keys, unlocked the vehicle and got inside to play.”

“Unfortunately, the car locked from the inside and when the parents returned in the evening, they discovered their two daughters, Sunita (7) and Savitri (4), as well as their two sons , Karthik (2) and Vishnu (5), had succumbed to suffocation. The Taluka police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident,” Desai added.

The car’s owner, Bharat, told media that a family of seven children had come from Madhya Pradesh to work in his farm. He had parked his car nearby, which the children found and went inside, unlocking the doors.

“We found out about the incident only towards the evening and immediately informed the sarpanch as well as the police. The bodies were then taken to Amreli Hospital for post-mortem. I have also made arrangements for the family to return to their hometown,” he added.
