Floridians are being asked to vote on Amendment 4, a proposal that would solidify a so-called “right” to abortion up to the time of birth. This amendment is extreme, inhumane and fundamentally incompatible with the values of life and human dignity. Allowing the intentional termination of a child just moments before birth is a violation of moral decency and goes against the principles that our society holds dear.

Florida voters should strongly oppose Amendment 4 to defend the sanctity of life.

Governor Ron DeSantis emphasized the responsibility of leaders to protect the most vulnerable. “We have a responsibility to protect life,” he said, emphasizing the government’s role in defending those who cannot defend themselves. Allowing unrestricted abortion until birth would break this principle, turning our laws against defenseless people rather than upholding their rights. This amendment does not concern women’s health; it is about uncontrolled and immoral power over life.

The economist and philosopher Thomas Sowell often reminded us: “Civilization was built on moral and ethical foundations, not just legal rights. » Amendment 4 threatens to erode these moral foundations, by treating human life as disposable and ignoring the inherent value of a child. It is crucial to recognize that moral boundaries exist to protect both our society and our humanity.

By pushing these boundaries, Amendment 4 threatens to deprive our laws of any ethical framework.

The late President Ronald Reagan, a staunch pro-life advocate, once said, “I have noticed that everyone who is in favor of abortion has already been born. » His words remind us of the preciousness of life and the cruel irony that those who defend extreme abortion rights were themselves lucky enough to live. Reagan believed in a society where the strong protect the weak – a society where unborn children are given a chance at life, not theirs denied on the eve of their birth.

Existing laws in Florida already allow access to abortion within what even many right-to-choice advocates consider a reasonable time frame and with necessary safeguards, including exceptions for cases of rape, incest or life-threatening circumstances. Amendment 4, however, would go beyond this delicate balance, removing all protections and allowing the potential abortion of viable, fully developed infants. This radical measure disregards not only the sanctity of life, but also the fundamental principles of compassion and humanity.

The majority of Americans and Floridians support common sense limits on abortion. The extremism of Amendment 4 is out of step with our values and poses a grave threat to the principle that all life is precious. By voting no on this amendment, we are taking a stand in favor of the defenseless, affirming our commitment to a society that respects and values life at every stage.

Floridians, let us honor morality and the most fundamental right: life. Let’s reject Amendment 4 and respect the moral duty to protect the most innocent among us.
