KINGSTON, Jamaica — Telecommunications company Digicel says it is fully prepared as a possible tropical storm approaches.

In a statement released Monday, the company said it had kicked into high gear its contingency plan for adverse weather conditions to ensure everything is in place to best manage the events of the coming days.

Specifically, Digicel said it has ensured that all cell sites and fiber optic installations across the island are in good condition and ready for operation.

“Starting with preparatory messages to our customers and the general public, we have also engaged with key disaster preparedness stakeholders, including ODPEM (Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management), the first stakeholders and even our competitor. We are taking a holistic approach to Jamaica’s response,” said Stephen Murad, Managing Director of Digicel Jamaica.

Urging everyone to do everything they can to prepare for a possible storm, Murad said: “Our main concern is the safety of our people. We are taking this opportunity to remind everyone to take the necessary steps to stay safe and prepare for the storm by stocking up on essential items, securing their homes, keeping their phones charged and recharged so they can stay in touch with their loved ones. Likewise, we did everything we could to be ready to face the storm and mobilized our technical teams and field engineers across the island.
