Giants can steal long-time player from Dodgers in free agency

THE Los Angeles Dodgers are your 2024 World Series champions after dominating the playoffs. Now they head into free agency where they will be tasked with re-signing their own free agents as well as adding players from outside the organization.

Last offseason, Los Angeles added Shohei Ohtani for $700 million, while adding Yoshinobu Yamamoto for well over $300 million. It was clear that the Dodgers had won the offseason and it quickly translated into victories on the field.

Key players like Jack Flaherty, Teoscar Hernandez, Blake Treinen and Walker Buehler are all unrestricted free agents for Los Angeles this winter. But their biggest target has long been Milwaukee Brewers star shortstop Willy Adames.

Brewers star shortstop Willy Adames is set to enter free agency and he would fit right in in the Los Angeles infield.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand recently took a look at each of the top 25 free agents this offseason.

“A number of prominent shortstops have hit free agency in recent years, with Corey Seager, Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa and Dansby Swanson all enjoying big free agent contracts,” Feinsand wrote. “After another solid offensive season – in which he set career highs with 32 home runs and 112 RBIs – Adames is the best shortstop available this winterand while his defensive metrics haven’t been as strong in 2024, he’s still a solid defender. »

But Feinsand also made an interesting connection by listing the San Francisco Giants as one of the top picks at shortstop.

The Giants have an opportunity to swoop in and steal the Dodgers’ top free agent target right under their noses. If San Francisco wants to beat the Dodgers in the regular season and playoffs, they must first beat them in the offseason.

Each team is already within striking distance of Los Angeles after signing Ohtani to a $680 million deferred money contract. If the Dodgers start filling out the roster with more superstars alongside Ohtani, Betts and Freeman, the league might as well hand them the 2025 World Series trophy.

San Francisco has a chance to steal the biggest free agent on the Dodgers wish list and it would be a great move for them.
