BOSTON – Strong voter turnout is expected in Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 5, as Election Day 2024 will be marked by crucial elections at the local and national levels. Here’s what you need to know to find the right place to vote, if you didn’t take advantage of early voting.

Where can I vote in Massachusetts?

On the the state websiteMassachusetts voters can find their polling location by entering their address.

Cities and towns have the option of opening polls as early as 5:45 a.m. To find out if your city is a location with different hours, contact your local election office.

Do I need ID to vote in Massachusetts?

According to Massachusetts Sec. of State Bill Galvin, several circumstances may require you to show identification at your polling place.

You may be required to show identification if you are voting for the first time in Massachusetts, if you are on the inactive voter list, if you are casting a provisional or contested ballot, or if the poll worker has “a practical and legal reason” to request an identity document.”

If you need identification to vote, it must show your name and the address where you are registered. Examples include a recent driver’s license, state ID card, or utility bill.

Where to Vote Early in Massachusetts

Voting in Massachusetts started last monthbut the first ballots have already been collected. Early voting took place from October 19 to November 1. Every municipality in Massachusetts is required to hold early voting in at least one location.

Can I cast an absentee ballot on Election Day?

If you requested a ballot for vote by mailyou cannot drop it off at a polling place on Election Day. This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to vote.

You can vote in person if you requested to vote by mail but did not return your ballot, if you returned your ballot by mail but it did not arrive at your election office, or if your ballot arrived at your election office but was rejected.

Does your voting location change automatically if you move?

The only way your polling location will automatically change when you move is to change your address on your driver’s license, with MassHealth or Health Connector. In case you have not modified any of these elements, you will have to submit a new voter registration form online in order to vote.

You are allowed to vote at your old polling place for up to six months after you move, unless you are registered in another city or town. If you are not registered at your new polling place but think you have updated your voter registration address, you may be allowed to vote provisionally.

By voting provisionally, your new city or town has three days to determine your status.
