Expect election results ‘shortly after midnight,’ Wisconsin official says

A senior official within the Wisconsin The election system said results from the swing state could be expected after midnight Wednesday.

Paulina Gutierrez, executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, said the state had fewer hurdles than in 2020 due to the absence of COVID, but complications remained in the counting process.

The statements came as both Donald Trump and vice president Kamala Harris ended their campaign Monday with final rallies across multiple swing states.

Speaking on CNNGutierrez said: “There’s still trouble with the count. In 2020, we counted 168,000 ballots – we have 105,000, so we’re nowhere near that size this year, and of course there was the pandemic, so we had a lot of other things to put in in place.

“The thing to note is that even if we were to complete the count at a reasonable time, we have a very formal export, transport and upload process to ensure the safety and security of these results.

“I just want to assure the American public that it will happen, but it will be after midnight. I mean, I hope we don’t go past the early morning hours like we did during the pandemic, but it’s is just the reality of counting on fewer than hundreds of thousands of ballots.

Milwaukee is Wisconsin’s largest city and received a high proportion of the state’s mail-in ballots.

When does the counting of votes begin?

Each state begins counting votes at different times. In some swing states, election officials begin counting early votes and mail-in ballots a few days before Election Day itself to get a head start.

This is the case in states like Michigan, which starts counting more than a week before Election Day.

However, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania do not allow officials to begin counting until Election Day itself.

When will results start arriving?

According to a Harris campaign memo, swing state results will continue to come in throughout the week, as counting may be delayed.

As of Tuesday evening, results from Georgia and North Carolina are expected, unless the races are extremely close and recounts are necessary.

As of the early hours of Wednesday morning, most results from Michigan and Wisconsin are expected, consistent with what Gutierrez said Monday. Partial results in Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada are also expected.

The rest of the results are expected on Wednesday and beyond.

When will the result be announced?

The election will be called when Harris or Trump receives 270 or more electoral college votes. This means that not all states have to complete counting for a winner to be chosen.

According to Arnon Mishkin, who directed Fox New’s decision desk on election night in 2020, results could be announced Saturday November 9when Pennsylvania is expected to complete its count.

Pennsylvania was the swing state in 2020, and its announcement led to the election of Biden.
