Washoe County Staff Prepare for Election Day, Announce New Poll Security

Ahead of Election Day, Washoe County election officials said Monday they expected high turnout at the polls, even though the county reported a 59% turnout in early voting.

The county also announced a new feature that will be present in elections this year, namely a panic button available in case of emergency. County officials said when you press the button, 911 will be sent directly to your location within minutes.

Washoe County Deputy Registrar of Voters Andrew McDonald said with the stakes so high in this election, they have already seen an increase in election tensions, with the panic button being used once during voting anticipated.

“It was just a confrontation where someone didn’t want to take their hat off. They were standing in line. I’m not going to say the political party, it doesn’t matter. They just didn’t want to not remove their clothes There were a few other voters in line who sort of ganged up on one of the site managers, the site manager felt threatened, hit the panic button and them. cops came,” McDonald said.

According to McDonald, after the cops arrived, the voter was able to vote.
